Hospice of Odessa is a We Honor Veterans level four partner and is proud to serve the Veterans of the Permian Basin with our expert care. We Honor Veterans is a national awareness and action campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This partnership is a coalition of our organization, the Department of Veterans Affairs Department facilities, community organizations and others working together to give excellent end-of-life care to our local Veterans and the necessary support for their families. We are pledged to ensure that no Veteran on our service dies alone or unrecognized.
Hospice of Odessa is committed to providing the highest quality care to our nation’s Veterans living in West Texas. During the admission process, our team of professionals conducts a simple interview to learn about the Veteran’s military service. A military history checklist is used to understand the scope and duration of the service in order to provide the best care possible to the Veteran and support to the Veteran’s family. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, exposure to Agent Orange, psychological and spiritual issues, as well as other complicating factors can be addressed by our expert interdisciplinary hospice team as they work to honor each Veteran’s preferences for their end-of-life care.
Hospice of Midland is proud to partner with Veterans as volunteers who will be specifically assigned to each Veteran patient. Called our Vet-to-Vet program, these volunteers, because of shared experiences, have the unique ability to relate and connect with Veteran patients and their families.
Every Veteran utilizing Hospice of Midland’s services will enjoy a pinning ceremony in gratitude for their service and sacrifice. Veterans will be gifted a We Honor Veterans hat and pin as well as a quilt lovingly made by the Midland Quilters Guild. Near the end of life it is our honor to perform a “Final Salute” for these special heroes.
The Music Therapy program at Hospice of Midland is dedicated to helping fulfill the unique needs of patients and families through musical intervention to increase each individual's quality of life. Music Therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Our Board Certified Music Therapist uses patient preferred music, from Hymns to Rock & Roll, to meet each person wherever they are in their journey to work on communication, mitigate social isolation, facilitate family bonding, create lasting legacy projects, and more. Music is a language in itself and can be a profound experience in our bodies, hearts, and minds from our first to final breath. We offer one-on-one, family, group, and bereavement sessions within our interdisciplinary team approach at no additional cost. If you are interested, don't hesitate to contact us.
Pet Peace of Mind is a national program that enables hospice patients to keep their pets close to them through their end of life journey. For many in hospice care, changes in their physical condition may lead to a decrease of previously enjoyed social opportunities and relationships. The pets offer unconditional love, acceptance, comfort and companionship when it’s needed most.
Pet Peace of Mind provides helping hands and financial assistance to the pet owner in need. Caring volunteers are able to assist patients with their pet care needs. This loving support relieves the patient’s worry for their pet’s current and future needs.
Services offered by Hospice of Odess's Pet Peace of Mind may include assistance with:
All services are need-based and depend upon volunteer availability.

Pathways is a program offered to patients with an advanced, life-limiting illness. This palliative approach to care is community-based and offers guidance, support, and education to its participants and family members. There is no cost to the patient for this service. All medical care continues to be directed by the patient’s personal physician.
Making life-changing choices is often a challenge for people with advanced or chronic illnesses. We offer support to help identify and communicate wishes and goals of care. This helpful program gives you the right information at the right time. It is our aim to help you fulfill your life in a dignified and meaningful way.
"Pathways helped me understand what really matters by giving my life direction when I was at a crossroads. I'm thankful for the support system." -S. White

Stories have always been important to mankind and can teach core values, share fascinating information, or simply provide entertainment. When it comes to family, stories of family history are how we come to learn just who we are. These stories provide us with cultural identity, they bring us closer to the people around us, and they give us perspective on our own lives.
Life Legacy Stories is designed to preserve memories and record history. After all, who better to tell your story than you?
Please reach out if you cannot find an answer to your question.
